(Interfax – Moscow, August 5, 2014) Russian human rights ombudsman Ella Pamfilova has recommended to Ukrainian journalists to turn attention to the creation of a humanitarian corridor for Ukrainian servicemen and said she expects Kiev to open corridors to evacuate sick children, who are staying in the zone of the armed conflict in the southeast of the republic.

“We can expect that the Ukrainian authorities will finally respond to our numerous appeals and do everything in their power to set up a real humanitarian corridor, through which it is possible to evacuate sick children, who are under fire, from Donetsk and Luhansk,” Pamilova said on Tuesday [5 August], according to the official website of the human rights ombudsman.

In addition, Pamfilova welcomed the creation of a humanitarian corridor for 430 Ukrainian servicemen, which, in her opinion, should be covered by the Ukrainian media.

“It would be fair if official Ukrainian media outlets bring this fact to the Ukrainian people’s attention. Amid the information wars that sow the seeds of hatred among our peoples the publication of this information may lead to a decrease in the level of hatred,” she added.
