Interfax: Russian population rises by 261,600 per 10 million due to migration – Rosstat

MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) – Russia’s population was an estimated 143.6 million on November 1, 2013, up 261,600 from the beginning of 2013, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.

The number of births in January-October rose to 1,591,600 from 1,586,900 in the same period of last year. The number of deaths fell to 1,574,800 from 1,586,100.

Natural population growth was 16,800, compared with 800 in the same period of last year. Migration growth was 244,800, or 93.6% of overall population growth.

An increase in births was noted in 38 regions and an increase in deaths in 57.

Natural population growth was recorded in 43 regions (in 39 in 10M 2012).
