Interfax: Western evaluations of events in eastern, southern Ukraine reflect double standards – Chizhov

BRUSSELS. April 10 (Interfax) – Russia’s permanent envoy to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov believes the evaluations given by the West to the events taking place in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine clearly indicate double standards in the approach to the crisis in Ukraine.

“We see what is going on in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine. It again confirms the deep contradictions that exist in this country. However, that also confirms the presence of double standards in the evaluations of these events,” Chizhov said at a meeting in the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday.

“Looking at the television picture, it is easy to see a lot in common between what happened in Kyiv three months ago and what is now happening in Donetsk. The same barricades, car tires, the same seizures of administrative buildings,” the diplomat said.

“However, what happened in Kyiv three months ago was called by the United States and the European Union ‘resistance by people seeking the realization of their European ambitions, resisting the anti-people’s Yanukovych regime, and now they are calling it ‘actions by pro-Russian bandits that need to be suppressed,'” Chizhov said.

“I think it’s difficult to think of any more evidence manifestation of double standards,” Chizhov said.
