MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) – Russian-Cuban interaction on the international scene is strong, and they take similar stances to sanctions pressure, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at a meeting with Cuban Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Leopoldo Cintra Frias in Moscow on Wednesday.

Welsh, www.stevencwelsh.info :: www.stevencwelsh.com“We give high marks to the alliance between Russia and Cuba on the international scene. We have solidarity on key global issues. Cuba also understands us as far as countering illegitimate, unprincipled sanctions pressure,” Shoigu said.

“Mutual support is especially important in situations where some states are brazenly trying to recast the foundations of international law in their own mold,” he said.

“When policies are pursued to displace unfavored governments in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and other countries of Latin America and the Caribbean,” Shoigu said.

“The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Cuban State Council Chairman Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez in Moscow on November 2 gave a powerful boost to strengthening bilateral relations,” he said.

“On his first foreign tour, the Cuban leader demonstrated the continuity of Cuba’s foreign policy. The implementation of the agreements achieved by Russia and Cuba is our priority. I see your visit to Russia in this context, too,” Shoigu said.

The two countries have an intensive and constructive political dialogue, exchange delegations, and maintain contacts between their defense agencies, he said.

The defense ministers will discuss cooperation and Russia’s experience in fighting terrorism in Syria.
