“What survives of the mainstream press prides itself on delivering the anti-Trump message. … Anti-Trumpism is the gift that briefly arrested their decline, though the holiday may be running out for the Washington Post. … The media … can no longer be trusted to give a skeptical, realistic account of what [Trump] might do as president, preferring to put words in his mouth to suit its own narratives. In Ukraine, the American people don’t want Russia to win, don’t want to see the war expanded, and don’t want it to drag on. … The really glaring signal on Ukraine is that neither party’s coalition is all that committed to its cause. [] Trump, typically, says nothing intelligible about the $60 billion hung up in Congress, not that [] Putin was ever going to give us a cheap win. The $1 trillion-plus [] Biden wants to spend forgiving student loans and subsidizing electric vehicles, if budgeted for Ukraine, really might end the war in 24 hours. [] Putin would cut the best deal he could, seeing himself outbid. But notice only one candidate has even breathed a word suggesting he might consider upping the stakes, and it’s [] Trump. …”
