“… In a climate where winter temperatures in Arctic regions can fall below -50 degrees C (-58 degrees F), warmer weather might offer some relief. A research paper … even predicted … ‘Global warming will likely to bring more positive rather than negative effects for Russia’s food security and agriculture ….’ The same paper warned … ‘A major negative impact of climate change for agriculture in Russia is possible repetition of droughts and increase in dryness in some regions.’ … those regions which might potentially benefit from a longer agricultural year are not necessarily near farming know-how, so infrastructure would have to change …. The story at sea is another. Warmer summers in the far north offer the possibility that the northern sea route, following Russia’s arctic coast, could become a major shipping route from China to the west. Seas that have usually been frozen most of the year are increasingly ice free for longer. …”
