Interfax: DPR militiamen accuse Kyiv of over 100 shellings over past day

DONETSK. Feb 2 (Interfax) – The Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said that the Ukrainian military have breached the ceasefire 28 times over the past day; two people were wounded.

“The situation on the contact line has not changed over the past day. The Ukrainian army has shelled the territory of the republic 109 times as a result of 28 violations of the ceasefire. During the shellings the enemy has used: 120mm mortars – 53 times, 82mm mortars – 46 times, automatic grenade launchers and small arms – 10 times,” senior official with the DPR Defense Ministry Eduard Basurin told reporters.

Intensive shellings have been conducted from the positions of the 30th separate mechanized brigade from the localities of Zhovinka and Bahmutivka in the Zaitseve locality.

“Over 70 mines with calibers of 120mm and 82mm have been fired. In the daytime one woman, Larisa Viktorovna Iovik, was wounded in the Ukrainian army shelling of the village,” Basurin said.

He also said that the Ukrainian army has shelled the localities of Lozove, Shyroka Balka, Zhabycheve, Spartak, the Volvo Center and the Donetsk airport area.

“One more civilian, Sergei Gagikovich Akobyan, was injured in the explosion of a Ukrainian mine while driving a car in the area of the Shyroka Balka locality, the so-called ‘grey area’,” Basurin also said.

He said that reconnaissance units of the self-proclaimed republic continued spotting the concentration of personnel and military hardware of the enemy along the dividing line.

“Thus, in the area of the Berezove locality [six kilometers from the contact line] the movement of 50 units of military hardware, including 14 tanks, 18 infantry combat vehicles, four self-propelled artillery weapons, five Grad multiple rocket launchers, three towing vehicles with 120mm mortars, six vehicles with personnel and ammunition has been recorded, [in] the Andriivka locality [17 kilometers from the contact line] the arrival of two wagons with ammunition and diesel fuel tankers at the railway station has been spotted; [in] the Selidovo locality [35 kilometers from the contact line] the arrival of a convoy of six tanks for further transfer [in the area] near Donetsk has been recorded,” Basurin said.
