Dear JRL,

I can’t help but the see the incredible hypocrisy in the article entitled, “Expect More Anti-Americanism in 2013” (The Moscow Times, January 18), when this publication – Moscow’s only English-language daily – has practically declared itself the official mouthpiece of the Russian opposition.

Personally speaking, I don’t quite understand how a foreign-owned paper is permitted day after day to spew easily predictable articles with dark headlines like: “Russia’s Crocodile Tears for Its Spurned Children;” “The Crisis of Putinism;” “The Propiskas Send Russia Back to the U.S.S.R.” Are you kidding me? I challenge anybody to find an Op-Ed in this paper that puts a positive angle on Russia. As a resident of Moscow who would really appreciate a local newspaper that offers a balanced, impartial perspective on Russia with his morning coffee, I think TMT should be much more concerned that Russia will one day impose a ban on the distribution of free papers in the city (especially ones that are blatantly one-sided) instead of “cracking down on U.S. journalists,” introducing a ban on “U.S.-Russian marriages” as well as on “U.S. scholarships for Russian students.”

Sincerely,
Robert Bridge
