Interfax: Less than 49% of Ukrainians agree with change of power in the country – poll

KYIV. April 4 (Interfax) – The results of a public opinion survey conducted by the GfK Ukraine company in March show that a relative majority of Ukrainian citizens support the change of power in the country.

According to the poll results, 31% of respondents said they wholeheartedly supported the change of power in Kyiv in February, 18% would be likely to support it, 16% would be unlikely to support it, 18% of those interviewed strongly criticized these events, and 18% were undecided.

A mere 20% of respondents in Ukraine’s southeastern regions said they approved of the change of power in the country, as compared with 57% and more in the country’s other regions. GfK Ukraine said in a press release that 29% of Ukrainians believe their country is moving in the right direction today (7% in February), and 42% of those polled criticized the path recently chosen by Ukraine (70% in February).

Thirty-six percent of respondents in Kyiv, as well as Ukraine’s northern, western and central regions approve of the policies being pursued by the country’s new leadership, as compared with 12% in the south and 9% in the east of the country.

The survey was conducted on March 4-18 and involved 1,000 people, including residents of Crimea. The margin of error was 3.1%.
