(Interfax – MOSCOW, June 6, 2013) The Moscow mayor’s rating has grown over the past few months, sociologists said.

Thirty percent of Muscovites support Sergei Sobyanin at present. The number was 26% in March, shows a Superjob.ru portal survey done on May 17-20 amongst 2,000 economically active respondents.

Men (31%) are more inclined to approve of the mayor’s work than women (28%).

Twenty-seven percent of Muscovites disapprove of the mayor’s performance, as compared to 33% in March.

Some 43% could not evaluate the mayor’s performance.

The sociologists said that Muscovites were optimistic when Sobyanin took the mayoral position. More than a third of economically active city residents (36%) supported the new mayor and only 9% opposed him in November 2010. However, the percentage of discontent citizens grew to 26% in the end of 2010, and the approval rating varied from 22% to 39% one month to another. The rating was higher than in the previous months (30%) in summer 2012.

Sobyanin said on June 4 he would render his resignation to the Russian president for holding a direct mayoral election on the single voting day, September 8.
