Russian source Itar-Tass reports that authorities pursuing an investigation of Alexei Navalny have now conducted a search of his parents’ willow-weaving factory in the Moscow region.  [Navalny is an opposition leader and anti-corruption lawyer-blogger.]

The factory was first established in the 1930s, then privatized in the 1990s.  Navalny’s mother was an economist there, and the Navalny family worked to preserve the “ancient craft” of willow-weaving by buying the factory when it otherwise had been slated for elimination.  Ownership reportedly is equally held by Navalny’s mother, his father, his brother and Navalny himself.

The Russian Investigation Committee declared its intention to find evidence there relating to its July 31 allegation that Navalny masterminded a conspiracy to steal timber in the Kirov region, in connection with “the Kirov regional state-run unitary enterprise Kirovles … the director of the Vyatka forest company Pyotr Ofitserov and Kirovles Director General Vyacheslav Opalev.”

[other sources posted by the JRL have raised concerns or arguments about the matter being politically motivated or influenced, given Navalny’s opposition activities, involvement with protests, and anti-corruption whistleblowing]
