(Interfax – Bishkek, 20 September) The leadership of the (Russian) Ministry of Finance is sceptical about pessimistic takes and forecasts on the outflow of capital from Russia and believes that there are no grounds for this – that this is ordinary banking practice.

“I see no indication of there being a withdrawal of funds from Russia. What people are calling ‘capital flight’ on every corner is the return of money on previously-obtained loans,” Deputy Finance Minister Sergey Storchak told journalists on Thursday (20 September), while in Bishkek as part of a Russian delegation accompanying President Vladimir Putin on his visit to Kyrgyzstan.

“I see no indications of flight, this is normal banking practice,” he said.
