MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) – United Russia Chairman and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has urged United Russia members to back investigative reporters or even to hold a party contest for the best investigative report.

“I believe it would be the right thing for United Russia to support investigative reporters. I’ll point out that these should be real investigations, not fake news. We should build a partnership with those raising acute problems and fighting injustice and violations of law,” Medvedev wrote in his article entitled United Russia – Course Towards Change, which was published by Izvestia ahead of the party’s conference.

He said holding a party contest for the best investigative reports was a good idea.

Medvedev asked the party not to forget about “external control” by the media, bloggers, and civil activities who post their information on social media.

“You should learn to communicate and cooperate with them,” he said.

Medvedev additionally emphasized the importance of internal party control in order for United Russia not to be associated with persons “who demonstrate arrogance and boorishness despite the ethical norms of our country.”

Internal control was effective during the latest United Russia primaries, Medvedev said. “It was so in Sakhalin and the Novgorod region, where candidates were barred from the primaries because their actions discredited the party. The response of regional branches was firm,” he said.

In addition, Medvedev called for discussing a reshuffle of the party leadership, as well as personal responsibility of members of the party’s General Council for implementing key tasks at the joint meeting of the party’s Supreme Council and General Council.
