Moscow, 13 May: Moscow Gay Pride activists have notified the Moscow mayor’s office that they will stage a “Conchita Wurst Bearded Women and Men March”, the GayRussia.ru portal reports.

“According to the submitted application, the event should take place on Tuesday 27 May, on the 21st anniversary of the decriminalization of consensual gay sex in Russia,” the report says.

According to the portal, the procession is proposed from 13 to 14 hours [local time; 0900-1000 gmt] along the pedestrian part of Tverskoy Bulvar [boulevard in central Moscow], from Pushkinskaya Ploshchad [square] to Nikitskiye Vorota square, with up to 100 marchers.

“Many LGBT activists would like to use the image of Conchita Wurst during the ninth annual gay parade in Moscow scheduled for Saturday 31 May. In view of this, the application for the Conchita Wurst procession of the bearded opens the Gay Pride season and will be a trial balloon in our relations with the Moscow mayor’s office this year,” the portal quotes Moscow Gay Pride movement founder Nikolay Alekseyev saying.
