The German Bundestag has allocated funds to enhance expertise on Russia and Eastern Europe in Germany. On this basis, the Federal Government is establishing the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) as a foundation under German Civil Law. The Centre is to begin work as an independent, non-university research institution based in Berlin towards the middle of 2016. It will be tasked with undertaking applied basic research, promoting the training and education of young academics and providing expertise on Eastern Europe for policymakers, business and the public. The target regions for its academic activity are Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. During the initial phase, one thematic focus will be the topic Regime and the Public Sphere.
We are seeking to appoint five research fellows from 1 September 2016 with limitedterm contracts of two years. Remuneration is bracket E 13 of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD).
Tasks to be performed by the successful candidates
- develop and carry out their own research project as part of the Institute’s thematic focus Regime and the Public Sphere/ “Machtressourcen und Öffentlichkeit”,
- assist in the conceptional development of the Institute,
- management of external projects.
The successful candidates will have:
- completed their doctorate in the field of contemporary research into the post-Soviet area,
- conceptual and methodological expertise (and a high degree of interest in the development of new area studies approaches for the target region),
- a very good knowledge of English and German as well as knowledge of a language of the target region.
Presentation of a research project:
In addition to the usual documents, applicants are invited to present a draft of their planned research project (max. 10 pages) which can be completed in two years.
Applications from suitably qualified female candidates are particularly welcome.
Particular consideration will be given to applications from people with severe disabilities, and those granted the same treatment as severely disabled individuals, pursuant to Book IX of the Social Code, provided they have equivalent skills and qualifications.
