ST. PETERSBURG. Oct 22 (Interfax) – The Russian economy will have difficulties functioning without migrant workers, former Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said.

“Russia will become a country with workforce deficit in the coming years…We currently cannot do without migrant workers. But migration should be regulated, it should be legal,” Kudrin told reporters in St. Petersburg on Tuesday during the Strategic Planning in the Regions and Cities of Russia forum.

It is better to draw high-level Russian-speaking experts, Kudrin said. The former finance minister said he did not rule out the possibility that the flow of migrant workers from Europe could increase in the future. “I do not rule out that at some point we will have migrant workers from Europe – Spain and Eastern European countries,” he said.
