MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax) – Over 400,000 citizens of Ukraine who have left the regions of Ukraine where a military conflict is going on have arrived in Russia, Russian Federal Migration Service official Vladimir Rucheikov said.

“Over 400,000 citizens of Ukraine have arrived in Russia since March. They are legalized under the law On Refugee Status on the territory of Russia and the legislation on the legal status of foreigners on the territory of Russia,” Rucheikov said at a meeting of the public committee on assistance to the people of southeastern Ukraine held in the Federation Council on Friday.

Over 1,000 citizens of Ukraine have been legalized under the legislation on the recognition of citizens of foreign countries as refugees and some 6,000 people have been legalized under the law on the temporary status of foreign citizens, Rucheikov said. A considerable number of citizens of Ukraine have been legalized by receiving temporary stay permits in Russia, and some people have received work patents, he said.

The number of citizens of Ukraine who would like to receive status giving temporary asylum on the territory of Russia has increased sharply, Rucheikov said. The official recalled that Ukrainian citizens are eligible for a simplified procedure for granting temporary residence permits for a period of up to three years under the current legislation.

“The number of Ukrainian citizens who wish to relocate to Russia under the location program for Russians has increased five times since March. Forty-nine regions of Russia where this program is being put in place are ready to take them. The program involves the provision of relation allowances and assistance with employment,” Rucheikov said.
