The Day of Russia, the country’s National Day, reflects the responsibility of Russians for the country’s present and future, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on June 12.

“This holiday marks such utmost important values as Motherland, patriotism, and the unity of the people, reflecting our warm and sincere feelings about Russia, our responsibility for its present and future,” Putin said when speaking at the State Prize ceremony on the Day of Russia.

Putin went on to emphasize that this holiday symbolizes the centuries-long history of the country, the common destiny of the multinational people of Russia, “who have left a great heritage, the traditions to live in peace and concord and their sacred attitude to the Motherland, as well as their labor and military victories to the generations of today”.

Putin noted that it is often possible to find answers to some utmost pressing questions of modern times in the Russian history. “The traditions and their continuation still play into the significance of humanism, enlightenment, education, scientific and creative activity today. It is no coincidence that it is on the Day of Russia that badges of State Prize laureates are presented to outstanding workers of science and culture of our country,” Putin said.
