Ukraine ready for full-fledged dialogue with Russia after new government is formed – ministry
KYIV. Feb 26 (Interfax) – Ukraine will be ready to resume a full-fledged bilateral dialogue in the Ukrainian-Russian Interstate Commission’s institutions as soon as the new Ukrainian government is formed, says a report posted on the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry website on Tuesday.
“We reaffirm our loyalty to Ukrainian-Russian relations on a brand new, truly equal and neighborly basis, which has been emphasized in the address of Acting Ukrainian President, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov to the people of Ukraine,” the ministry stressed.
Ukraine is interested in the international support for its efforts of economic stabilization and the prevention of possible threats to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country, it said.
“Ukraine places emphasis on a statement of the foreign minister of the Russian Federation as a party to the Budapest Memorandum, which declares the impermissibility of foreign interference in Ukraine’s internal affairs and the importance to create conditions for the Ukrainian development as a part of the European family,” the report says.
Being the only legislative body and legitimate power institution, the Verkhovna Rada has undertaken the responsibility for normalization and has made its keynote decisions by a constitutional majority vote of Ukrainian people’s deputies who represent all parliamentary political forces, the ministry said.
“The legitimacy of decisions made by the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has been recognized by many international partners of our state,” it said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters on Tuesday that Moscow was not going to interfere in Ukrainian internal affairs and expected Western partners to act similarly.
“We reaffirmed our principled position of non-interference in Ukrainian internal affairs and we expect everyone to stick to a similar logic and use contacts with various political forces in Ukraine for the promotion of peace,” Lavrov said after negotiations with his Luxembourg counterpart Jean Asselborn.
