MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax) – An overwhelming majority of Russians disapprove of raising the retirement age and believe that the current age is optimal for both men and women, the Levada Analytical Center said in a statement obtained by Interfax on Thursday.

Eighty-nine percent of respondents said they do not want to postpone their retirement.

The current retirement age for men (60) was called optimal by 87% of respondents, and 84% approve of the current age for women (55).

Seventy-eight percent said it is not right that pensions of working pensioners are not adjusted for inflation, and 85% said it is wrong to deprive people who continue working past the retirement age of their pensions.

The sociologists polled a representative sample of 1,600 adults in 136 urban and rural populated localities in 52 Russian constituent territories on June 22-26.
