Ukraine

1. Wall Street Journal: Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko Promises More Autonomy for East. Rebels Stand by Demand for Full Independence.
2. ITAR-TASS: Luhansk and Donetsk republics may start negotiating their political status with Kiev soon.
3. Reuters: Ukraine says Russia withdrawing forces from east, sees boost for peace.
4. RIA Novosti: Russian Prime Minister Calls for Balanced Approach to Ukrainian Crisis.
5. Russia Beyond the Headlines: Ukraine ceasefire: In order for deal to hold, radicals must be sidelined. On September 5, Kiev and the breakaway republics in eastern Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire, and talks are due to continue in Minsk this weekend. Russian commentators interviewed by RBTH say that they believe the current ceasefire could lead to progress in resolving the crisis, but both sides will need to take more moderate positions and find common ground.
6. Russia Beyond the Headlines: Fyodor Lukyanov, After the truce: Where now for eastern Ukraine? The ceasefire now in effect in the east of Ukraine is the first serious deal between the parties on a path towards a peaceful settlement. However, working out the details and negotiating a future status for the region that is acceptable to all parties will be a challenging task requiring compromise from all sides.
7. The Daily Telegraph (UK): Tony Brenton, It’s time to back away from the Russian wolf. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin won’t be thwarted by Nato or economic sanctions and his aim of a neutral Ukraine is acceptable.
