YAROSLAVL. Oct 11 (Interfax) – Businessman Mikhail Prokhorov has confirmed his plans to focus on politics and stop his business activities.

“I have virtually stopped my business activities and am going to focus solely on politics. Being a businessman and a politician is wrong, as it leads to a conflict of interests,” Prokhorov told a press conference on Tuesday in Yaroslavl, which he called the first city in his tour of the
Russian regions that is aimed at promoting the new Civil Platform party.

Prokhorov said he intends to sell some of his assets while the majority will be transferred into a trust.

Speaking of his electoral plans, Prokhorov said he does not see himself in the September 2013 elections. “I have some plans for myself, but I personally don’t see myself in the September 2013 elections,” he said, adding that Civil Platform will be nominating candidates for the September 2013 elections.

“However, I will recommend that our candidates who are elected mayor or governor stop their party activities (for the period of the exercise of their powers),” Prokhorov said.

Prokhorov also said he will back Yaroslavl Mayor Yevgeny Urlashov if he decides to run for the post of governor of the Yaroslavl region. Urlashov, in turn, said Prokhorov had given him moral support back when he ran for the post of Yaroslavl mayor.
