Number of Russians ready to support Putin in presidential polls falls from 66% to 38%

(Business New Europe – bne.eu – October 30, 2014) 38% of Russian citizens interviewed by the Levada Center in September said they were ready to vote for incumbent President Vladimir Putin if the presidential elections were to be held this coming Sunday, as compared with 66% at the beginning of the year, center sociologists told Interfax.

7% of respondents said they would support Communist Party chairman Gennady Zyuganov, 4% Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, 2% A Just Russia Party leader Sergei Mironov, 2% Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, and 1% opposition activist Alexei Navalny.

Sixty-three percent of those polled said they were ready to vote for the United Russia party if Russia’s next parliamentary elections were to be held this coming Sunday. Fifteen percent named the Communist Party, 7% the Liberal Democratic Party, 5% A Just Russia, 2% the Yabloko liberal party, and 1% Alexei Navalny’s Progress Party.

The survey was conducted in 45 Russian regions on September 26-29 and involved 1,630 people aged 18 and over.
