The Daily Express covers recent incidents of Royal Air Force jets being scrambled to intercept two Russian long-range “Bear” bombers spotted over Cornwall.

British fighter jets have been sent out more than 40 times in the past four years to address threats from Russian aircraft.

Air Chief Marshal Lord Stirrup accused Russia of rehearsing attack missions and endangering civilian aviation by increasing the danger of mid-air collisions.

‘These aircraft are not going on these very long flights just as joyrides. They are mission rehearsals. …

“They are testing our defences and they are engaging in a game of chicken. That’s very dangerous.

‘We are seeing the possibility of mid-air collision between Russian aircraft and civilian aircraft increasing.’
