The Mausoleum containing Vladimir Lenin’s embalmed body is staying on Moscow’s Red Square for the time being, Interfax news agency quoted Kremlin property management chief Vladimir Kozhin as saying in a 1 January report.

“No specific decisions have been taken with respect to the Lenin Mausoleum yet. I am unaware of plans to change anything, to clear out or remove (Lenin’s body),” Kozhin said.

At the same time, Kozhin acknowledged that surveys were showing that more people were wanting Lenin’s body to be removed from the Mausoleum and buried. “These are only polls though,” he noted.

He also said that there were no plans to close off Red Square to carry out capital repairs on the square’s cobblestones.
