“Every fifth Russian worker earns less than RUB15,000 ($250) per month, according to … a study by the RIA Rating agency [cited by] … RIA Novosti …. Over 33% of people living in 22 regions earn less than this amount, according to the survey. [The worst were] Dagestan … (46%) … [and the] Karachay-Cherkess Republic (44%). Half of Russian workers average RUB17,000 to RUB44,000 per month according to the source. Regions with the best pay, according to the article:

  • Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District with 27% earning more than RUB100,000 ($1,505) per month
  • Chukotka Autonomous Region with 26% above that level
  • Nenets Autonomous District
  • Magadan region
  • Moscow

Incomes in remote mineral-rich regions reportedly are higher than in Russian’s European portion, but offset by difficult logistics pushing up the cost of living in those areas.
