The escalation of international conflicts is currently the issue that most frightens Russian citizens, the results of a poll by the state-run VTsIOM pollster published Monday revealed.

Seventy percent of Russians currently believe that international conflicts and hostilities pose a real threat, according to the poll.

The second issue that most worries Russians is the devaluation of their savings and increasing prices for goods, the poll revealed.

VTsIOM researchers also noted that over the past two months Russian citizens have become less concerned about the emergence of unrest and conflict within the country. Crime has also become less of a worry for Russians.

The VTsIOM poll was carried out on Dec. 26-27 among 1,600 respondents in 46 Russian regions. The margin of error did not exceed 3.4 percent.
