DONETSK/KYIV. Oct 3 (Interfax) – Armed clashes for control over the Donetsk airport continue, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) told Interfax on Friday morning.

“Fighting continues. Several buildings on the premises of the Donetsk airport are currently under our control. But it is too early to say that we are already controlling the entire airport,” he said.

The DPR said on its Twitter account last night that “the army of Novorossiya gained control of Donetsk airport five months down the road.”

Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko said on Friday afternoon that the Donetsk airport is still controlled by the Ukrainian military who have reinforced their positions.

“The positions for defending this infrastructure asset have been reinforced, the personnel and equipment have been partially rotated. Our military are prepared to fully repel another storm,” he said.

Fighting for control over the Donetsk airport has been under way for several weeks.
