Interfax: Russia dramatically reduces imports of sanctioned products from non-CIS in August

MOSCOW. Sept 9 (Interfax) – Russia dramatically reduced imports of products that are under the food embargo in August compared with July.

The food embargo was imposed on August 7, 2014.

According to the Federal Customs Service (FCS), vegetable, dairy, poultry and pork supplies declined the most dramatically. So, in August the cost of imports of vegetables amounted to $35.3 million, which is 73.2% less that in July. Dairy imports amounted $80.5 million, which is 56.1% less than in July.

Poultry meat imports fell by 45.6% to $33 million and pork imports fell 44.2% to $115 million. At the same time, beef supplies rose by 9.6% to $257.3 million.

The FCS also said that in comparison with August of last year, vegetable supplies fell by 44%, dairy products -57.2%, poultry meat – 38.9% and pork – 44.6%. Beef imports rose by 46.9%.

In all, Russia imported food goods and raw materials for their production at almost $2.5 billion in August, which is 13.1% less than in July of this year. In comparison with August 2013, supplies declined 7.5%
