MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) – The Ukrainian events and the neo-Nazi rampage demonstrate how dangerous the attempts to revise and distort history can be, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“We have been encountering attempts to revise and distort history with increasing frequency,” Putin emphasized in an interview with leading Chinese media outlets before his visit to China.

“Consequences can be very dangerous. This is proven by the tragic events evolving in Ukraine and the rampage of neo- Nazi forces, which have unleashed terror against the civilian population,” the Russian president underscored.

In the words of Putin, Russia and China agreed it was impermissible to revise WWII results, and their opinion was expressed in a joint statement dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the WWII end.

“Indeed, we will continue to deter attempts to falsify history, glorify the Nazi and their accomplices, and blacken the memory and good name of heroes – liberators,” Putin said.

He thanked the Chinese friends for “cherishing the memory of thousands of our compatriots who died liberating northeastern China from the invaders.”

“We will hold a number of joint events next year to celebrate the 70th victory anniversary both in the bilateral format and in the SCO. We will put an emphasis on work with the younger generation,” Putin said.
