ST. PETERSBURG. June 17 (Interfax) – Russia will fight against doping in sports at the state level, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“As for the official Russian authorities, I can say with full responsibility, that we are firmly against any doping,” Putin said at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

He said if it emerges that an athlete uses doping, interest in sports decreases, as “it is not interesting to watch.” “Nothing can justify anything that can harm human health. That is why we fought and will continue to fight against doping at the state level,” he said.

“And, certainly, I want to emphasize this, there have never been and will not be any support for violations in sports, in particular, in the field of doping, at the state level in Russia. We have cooperated and will cooperate with all international organizations that work in this sector, he said.
