(Interfax – Zhukovskiy, Moscow Region, August 27, 2013) In case of a military operation in Syria, Western countries will not be able to secure an easy victory since Syrian troops are armed with Russian Buk-M2E air defence systems and other air defence means, a military-diplomatic source told Interfax AVN news agency on Tuesday (27 August).

“If the US army, together with NATO, starts an operation against Syria, there will be no easy victory. The multi-functional air defence system Buk-2ME and other air defence systems will provide a worthy response to aggressors,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

He said that at the moment, there are up to 10 batteries of this air defence system in Syria, which can take down air targets in a 15 to 25-km range.

“This air defence complex is intended to protect troops and administrative and industrial facilities against enemy air strikes, missiles, glide bombs and controlled air bombs, as well as drones,” the agency’s interlocutor noted.

He said that this air defence system can repel air attacks in conditions of intense radio-electronic and fire counter-action from the enemy.

“This system’s actual probability of striking enemy air targets is close to one – it is 0.95. So one missile is supposed to destroy one target,” he said.
