DONETSK. July 24 (Interfax) – Explosions and volley fire are audible in Donetsk and smoke can be seen above north-western suburbs of the city, the Interfax correspondent reported on Thursday.

According to the information of the press office of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) information ministry, a fight between militia and the Ukrainian army continues near the village of Peski bordering the Donetsk airport. However, for now DPR representatives decline to comment on what is happening.

At the same time, Donetsk is facing termination of water supplies again. Pressure pipelines of the Seversky Donest – Donbass channel were damaged on Thursday by a bridge explosion in Horlivka, the Donbass Water company posted in a statement on its website on Thursday.

Throughout the day armed forces of the DPR continue attacking positions of Ukrainian troops not far from the Russian border, the media center of the Donetsk headquarters of the DPR militia told Interfax. “By Thursday morning the enemy’s group was thrown from the Kozhivne district to the village of Hryhorivka. Besides this the militia continues to hold heavy artillery fire at the Marynovka border checkpoint,” militia said.

According to the information of the Donetsk militia headquarters, Thursday several armored vehicles of the Ukrainian army were put out of service near the village of Kuteynikovo in the Amvrosiyevsky district.

Meanwhile, a law on the military was passed by Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada on July 23, which applies to the Donetsk region being controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. At the same time, according to numerous local residents, not many are willing to fight for the Kyiv authorities. “Rumors go around in the city that up to 20,000 draftees should be called from Mariupol to participate in the counter-terrorism operation. But very few are willing to fight on Ukraine’s side,” Mariupol resident Serhiy told Interfax.
