In a piece republished on JRL#231 (6 November 2014), the Moscow-based writer John Helmer says that I accepted a state award from the government of Poland, with the further unfair and untrue suggestion that this has slanted my coverage of Poland, and that I have lied about the matter. As I made clear on my website at the time, I was honoured to be nominated for the Bene Merito, but declined to accept it. I did not go to the awards ceremony. John Helmer did not seek comment before writing his articles about me, nor did he reply to my numerous e-mails asking him to correct it.
