(Moscow Times – themoscowtimes.com – January 8, 2014) The European Court for Human Rights last year made 120 rulings against human rights violations by Russian authorities, the Justice Ministry’s press service said Tuesday.

“As of Dec. 20, 2013 the European Court for Human Rights had made 120 rulings, in which Russian authorities were found guilty of violating the principles of the European Convention on Human Rights,” a ministry spokesman told Interfax.

He added that the information about the Strasbourg court’s rulings against Russia and the compensations paid will become available in the first quarter of 2014.

Some of the high-profile rulings against the country handed down by the ECHR in 2013 included the violations in the case against former Yukos’s CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his business partner Platon Lebedev and several decisions concerning the extrajudicial killings of civilians by Russian troops during the war in Chechnya.
